A screening of the movie “On the Map“. Dani Menkin’s documentary recounts the inspiring tale of the Israeli national basketball team’s 1977 win of the European Cup. The screening will be followed by a Q &A session with Dani Menkin, the Director, Writer and Producer of the movie. The movie is in Hebrew and English with English subtitles. The event is suitable for kids as well.

WHAT: Jewish or Israeli project founders let’s HACK Jewish San Diego and help you launch a project to enrich Jewish life in San Diego. Learn to pilot, fund, and increase your impact. Launch this year!

WHO: Jewish and/or Israeli project founders, business coaches (entrepreneurs and more)
WHY GET INVOLVED? Meet other project founders improving our communities, and enriching Jewish life in San Diego. Provide program ideas for the community through one of our Idea round tables. Be a Pro bono advisor engaging project founders in the Jewish community leveraging through strengths, skills and experience. Donors can hear about innovative work that needs further nurturing and be a part of building a stronger and more engaged Jewish San Diego.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? 3 Jewish community engagement projects will be selected for grants sponsored by the Covenant Foundation. Two additional projects led by Israeli-Americans or related to Israel will be selected for grants sponsored by the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation. Project founders are encouraged to participate in a Startup18 social venture lab program this year.

We can help you, while you help the community. This group inspires, encourages and supports Jewish innovation in San Diego.
FEBRUARY WORKSHOP: We’ve covered the importance of piloting, this month we’ll workshop as a group several of our own Lab project founders ideas and give them feedback, answer their questions, and challenge them with recommendations. Volunteer to be our first Idea Round Table participants.email Jennie@startup18.org if you want to present your pilot idea at this meeting. We will take up to 3 and allocate 15 minutes each.
In addition, we’ll talk about Covenant Foundation, Hadassah and new Natan Grants. Deadlines for Covenant Foundation and Hadassah are Feb. 10 and 21 respectively. New Natan Grants for projects dealing with Hate, Russian community programs and Books are in March. We’ll talk about the nuances of each and answer questions you have about the Foundations and their focus and past grantees.

WHY GET INVOLVED? Meet other project founders dedicated to personal growth, improving our communities, and enriching Jewish life in San Diego. Pro bono coaches engage with members in the Jewish community leveraging your strengths, skills and experience. Donors hear about innovative work that needs further nurturing and be a part of building a stronger and more engaged Jewish San Diego.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? 3 Jewish Community projects will be selected by their peers involved in the process from January-May for grants sponsored by the Covenant Foundation. Two additional projects led by Israeli-Americans or related to Israel will be selected at the Hackathon for grants sponsored by the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation. To be eligible, projects must participate in some meaningful ways in either our Idea Slam on 1/8/2017, the Jewish Engagement Lab or small discussion circles leading up to the Hackathon on 5/7/2017.
