New Council of Modern Hebrew for North America
For years Hebrew language instruction, professional development, curriculum development has happened in the silos of type of program (i.e. Jewish Day Schools, Synagogue Movement programs (i.e. Conservative, Reform, etc.) and very little work has been done to identify means of teaching the Modern Hebrew language the way we learn other languages. Two small organizations began to make good progress, the Hebrew Charter Center which opens Hebrew Language Charter schools in the United States, and Hebrew at the Center, previously at Brandeis University and now situated in Middlebury College.
Taking the lead to create the Council is the WZO, bringing in partners such as Hebrew at the Center and the Hebrew Language Charter Center. Their goal is terrific. To create a network that will improve the quality of Modern Hebrew instruction for all, in whatever setting, and provide professional development and tools. וחדש. אדון סימון עוזב את ארצו ועובר לגור בארץ אחרת. בביתו החדש מחליט אדון סימון להיפרד
מנעליו הישנות שליוו אותו כל חייו ולהחליפן בנעליים חדשות, אך משום מה הוא לא מצליח להיפטר
מהישנות. בכל פעם שהוא זורק אותן, רחוק ככל שיהיה, הן תמיד חוזרות אליו בדרך פלא.

Simon’s New Shoes – In Hebrew

Monday, December 9th at 5:30 at the Tarbuton in Carmel Valley
An entertaining folktale of old and new: Mr. Simon is moving to a new state and decides to buy
new shoes and get rid of his old ones, but no matter what he does, in some magical way, they
keep coming back to him.
This is a beautiful story that teaches us to accept and appreciate the new things in our lives,
while understanding that it’s OK to miss the old things, because they will always remind us of
where we came from and what we once were. For ages 4-10.
Tickets $10 for Tarbuton students and Ken families, $12 for general public on-line, $15 at the
door. Adult ticket purchase required as well.
