Jana Mazurkiewicz
YAAANA
Jana Mazurkiewicz Meisarosh is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan. She lives in San Diego. She is working on a dissertation on Yiddish Theater in Communist Warsaw. She is the founder and Director of YAAANA the Yiddish Arts and Academics Association of North America which builds community through events aimed at preserving Yiddish language, arts, and culture. Jana brings her energy and passion for Yiddish together in multi-generational, academic and artistic programs and events.
Jana is devoted to rescuing the dying Yiddish language and culture. She believes Yiddish can be revived not only in academia but also in the arts, particularly as a stage language. She explored this idea in a multilingual play she wrote wrote a play called “Wooden Wars.” The main language of the play is Yiddish, in addition to English and Polish. The title of the play is “Wooden Wars” and it comments on Polish-Jewish relationships in contemporary Poland.

Is There More? Jana is an active member of the Startup18 Lab. She partners with OneTable on unique Shabbat experiences through YAAANA and has offered her classes at the Lawrence Family JCC and Temple Adat Shalom.

Carina Rock is the West Coast Director and Ji Trainer for Jewish Interactive. As an artist, Carina’s favorite media are painting, digital art and video. Carina brings her passion for Jewish life, community and art together in her project the Jewish Women’s Mosaic.
